This project is a temporary installation which will trace the path of the Croton Aqueduct. The introduction of the seminal waterworks changed the future of New York City and allowed its growth and expansion. Providing clean water to a city plagued with disease and dirty water proved a daunting task which took many years and many millions of dollars to complete. This year marks the 160th anniversary of the Highbridge, the aqueduct bridge which crossed from the Bronx into Manhattan. As part of this celebration I am creating a path marker of monofilament and mirror fragments (removed from the waste stream) to trace the aqueduct path. The piece represents our interconnectedness with water. There will also be educational promotions on the reduction of water usage in the city.
This project is being created in partnership with Friends of Fort Tryon Park and is generously funded by New York City Parks & Recreation Department and City Parks Foundation.
